Your Devotional message for 23nd April 2021
Scripture:
The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall, I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid? When the wicked came against me. To eat up my flesh, my enemies, and foes, they stumbled and fell (Psalm 27:1-2, NKJV).
Explanation:
Advancement of medical sciences have helped us in the last decades to provide explanation to certain causes of illnesses and how to manage them, while causes of many diseases remain elusive with diseases of unknown etiologies. We must say that the scientific efforts have continued to improve life, management of diseases and longevity but living many people to live longer with comorbidity (with so many chronic diseases).
The Triune of man is evident by various spiritual senses and through the revelation of the Holy Spirit among believers. One of the current challenges remains the inability to reach the soul and spirit of man with scientific approach. Science provides meaning to our physical environment and often are events that have taken place, but not all antecedent events. However, there remains a big gap with things that pertain to spirit and soul. Similarly, just as we have diseases of physical causes, likewise there are diseases of Spiritual roots. In part 2 we shall be doing an expose to those kinds of diseases described as diseases of spiritual roots and how do we recognize them prudently.
We previously dealt with the matter of Triune of man; that we are Spirit first before soul and body. No wonder why Paul said in the scripture that “Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Thessalonians 5:23-24). Just like there diseases in the physical body, the Spirit of the man can be broken-hearted. For Instance, the Psalmist said “God heals the broken-hearted and binds up their wounds (Psalms 147:3, NKJV). It is not uncommon that the spirit of a man may be wounded, or the soul be troubled, caged or be tormented because of evil and wickedness before such affect is noticed within the body. The Human spirit is a candlelight of the body capable of receiving information from spiritual activities and can be alerted through vision and dreams.
What are those spiritual roots?
The fall of man:
The fall of man (Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden) and the consequences of the event in relation to health and diseases may sound foolish to many in the World today. However, this is the greatest reason God had to plan for salvation of man after Adam and Eve fell in the garden of Eden. Unfortunately, the serpent deceived Eve. When Eve saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate (Genesis 3:6-7, NKJV). Their eyes were opened and knew they were naked following such a serious deleterious fall due to disobedience. The consequences of their fall mean they were driven out of the garden of Eden. This brought death as a great penalty to man.
The sinful nature of man:
The effect of sins needs to be considered circumspectly because they can be overlooked. This can be easily taken for granted. Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned (Romans 5: 12, NKJV). We had discussed before that there are sins, iniquity, transgression, and trespasses.
Disobedience to God:
God is the Healer. However, disobedience to God commandment is a known root for many diseases right from ages and can spring through disobedience. Example of a case study is: So, the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, “Take for yourselves handfuls of ashes from a furnace and let Moses scatter it toward the heavens in the sight of Pharaoh. And it will become fine dust in all the land of Egypt, and it will cause boils that break out in sores on man and beast throughout all the land of Egypt” (Exodus 9:8-9,NKJV).
Evil and wickedness:
There is operation of evil and wickedness of this World by agents of darkness; The scripture describes that: His mouth is full of cursing and deceit and oppression; under his tongue is trouble and iniquity (Psalms 10:7, NKJV). For look! The wicked bend their bow, they make ready their arrow on the string, that they may shoot secretly at the upright in heart.
The demonic spirits:
The operation and influence of demons on health and life of men are known. Their mission is to steel, to kill and destroy (John 10:10). The spirit of Infirmity is a demonic spirit known for causing sickness and diseases. The scripture describes different hierarchical demonic powers that has mission to steel, kill and destroy life of people. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places (Ephesians 6:12). Therefore, take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. (Ephesians 6:13). The lists are long, and we may not be able to cover all today.
As a believer, I came to understand this issue in a hard way and their operations can be ignored. Thanks be to God for the blood of Jesus that has given us victory over these evil forces. However, we must engage in Spiritual warfare using believer’s Authority. Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you (Luke 10:19). Therefore, submit to God, resist the devil and he will flee from you (James 4:7).

Confession:
Lord grant me the grace so that the Holy Spirit may bring forth the manifestation of the gifts of the Holy Spirit as the Spirit give permission. The word of God is in my mouth. For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, it is piercing even to the division of my soul and spirit, and of my joints and marrow, and is a discerner of my thoughts and intents of the heart.
I prosper in all my ways and have good success daily, monthly and all years to the Glory of God in the name of Jesus. My body is healthy and strong. I refuse sickness, diseases, and evils of this world. I exercise my dominion over devil and the cohorts of darkness. From today I declare my victory and protection in the name of Jesus.
