Your Devotional message for 13th June 2021
Scripture:
However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting”(Matthew 17:21, NKJV).
Explanation:
In our today Daily Meditation, Day 14 of the 30 days of the Great Power of God, we will explore the role of prayers and fasting in the operation of the Great Power of God as described in the scripture. We already discussed that the lifestyle of prayers and mastering the principles of different prayers cannot be overemphasized when it comes to walking in the Great Power of God. We will now discuss the role of prayers and fasting in our authority for the Great works of God.
The use of Prayer and fasting transcended from the Old Testament. Examples are:
Nehemiah’s Prayer and fasting for the Jews (Nehemiah 1:1-11).
When Haman sought to destroy all the Jews in the Kingdom of Ahasuerus. He (Haman the enemy of the Jews) had reported them to the King Ahasuerus that they do not follow or keep the King’s laws (Esther 8and 9)
Fasting as the day for a man to afflict his soul. God instructs the Jews on the way and purpose of prayers and fasting for breakthroughs from evil and wickedness. “Is this not the fast that I have chosen: to lose the bonds of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, to let the oppressed go free, and that you break every yoke? (Isaiah 58:6).
Daniel’s prayer and fasting towards desolations of Jerusalem (Daniel 9:1-19)
Jesus Christ instructed that when you pray you shall not be like the hypocrites who like to pray in synagogues and on corners of the streets. When you pray, do not use vain repetitions as unbelievers.
Jesus Christ thought the disciples the Model of Pray:
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come.
Your will be done, On earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And do not lead us into temptation,
But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. “For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. (Matthew 6:9-14).
Jesus emphasized the role of prayers and fasting for the miraculous: Following an attempt by the disciples of Jesus Christ to heal the son of mute spirit. Jesus healed the child with mute Spirit. Jesus Christ said However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting”(Matthew 17:21, NKJV).
Prayers and fasting often may be required during intercessions and spiritual warfare:
We have previously discussed the spiritual warfare which also overlapped with Intercessions. Therefore, I exhort first that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. (1 Timothy 2:1-3, NKJV).
In the brevity of time, we would not be so much elaborate on each of these prayer styles or even more so others such as Prophecy using prophetic anointing that Jesus Christ also used.
Understanding how to pray right and fasting is an essential aspect of Christian growth. It gives access to seek the Lord for breakthroughs. Paul had suggested “Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints— and for me, that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel” (Ephesians 6:18-20, NKJV).
Study the Word of God, meditate upon the Word, and Confess the Word. Apply and confess the power in the Blood of Jesus and the Name of Jesus Christ.
Pray fervently that the schemes of the devil be destroyed, altars and evil spirits behind issues be arrested by Fire of God in the Name of Jesus Christ.

Thank you, Lord for the Spirit of wisdom, knowledge and understanding at work in me. I operate in the great Power of God for His great works – Healings, miracles and signs and wonders. The word of God is in my mouth and as I meditate, it permeates to the deep part of my Spirit, soul, and body. I am manifesting the power of God. I rule over Satan and his cohort of darkness. I prosper in my spirit, soul, and body. My life is flourishing in other areas of life as well as my health even as my soul prospers in all my ways. Prosperity and success are mine to the Glory of God in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth. Glory be to God.
