Biblical text:
In his distress he sought the favour of the Lord his God and humbled himself greatly before the God of his ancestors (2 Chronicles 33:12).
Explanation:
Daily Meditation, day 03 of 31 days of the month of January, we will study and meditate on the scriptures relating to our topic ‘The God of mercy and favour’ – The God of favour.
The God of Israel is a God of favour. There are many prayers and request by people in the Bible that is unique by asking for favour of God. Favour is undeserving and God’s favour makes one to avert reward of punishment. Such was the case of Manasseh.
The Lord spoke to Manasseh and his people, but they paid no attention. So the Lord brought against them the army commanders of the king of Assyria, who took Manasseh prisoner, put a hook in his nose, bound him with bronze shackles and took him to Babylon. In his distress he sought the favour of the Lord his God and humbled himself greatly before the God of his ancestors. And when he prayed to him, the Lord was moved by his entreaty and listened to his plea; so, he brought him back to Jerusalem and to his kingdom. Then Manasseh knew that the Lord is God (2 Chronicles 33:12).
The Psalmist prayed:
Have mercy on me, O Lord! Consider my trouble from those who hate me, You who lift me up from the gates of death (Psalm 9:3).
Further Scriptures:
Sing to the Lord! Praise the Lord! For He has delivered the life of the poor From the hand of evildoers (Jeremiah 20:13).
